Bees are essential pollinators that play a vital role in our ecosystem. They help to pollinate a wide variety of plants, which in turn provides food for humans and animals. Without bees, our food supply would be in jeopardy.
May 20th is World Bee Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of bees and other pollinators. It’s a great time to learn about bees and how we can help to protect them.
One way to learn about bees is by reading the book, ‘Please Don’t Swat‘. Another is by creating a fun and educational craft. In this blog post, I’m going to show you how to make a toilet paper roll bee. This craft is perfect for kids of all ages, and it’s a great way to spend some quality time together.

Materials Required:
-Toilet Paper Roll (or cut a paper towel roll in half)
-Googly Eyes
-Construction Paper in Yellow, Black, and White
-Scissors
-Glue Stick
-Black Marker (*Optional – Pink Marker to color on the cheeks)
-*Optional – Black Pipe Cleaners and/or Fuzzy Pom-Poms
Directions:
- Cut a strip of the yellow construction paper so that it’s the same width as the toilet paper roll. If you cut it too big, don’t worry as you can trim the excess off.
- Apply glue and wrap the yellow strip of paper around the roll.
- Cut 2 to 3 strips of the black construction paper to wrap around the bottom of your bee, applying them with glue.
- Glue on your googly eyes, then use the marker(s) to draw on your bee’s mouth and cheeks.
- Cut your wings in the shape of ovals out of the white construction paper, then glue onto the back of your toilet paper roll to make the bee’s wings.
- Then you can cut 2 small strips out of the black construction paper and glue on to make your bee’s antennae. *If you wish, you could use black pipe cleaners to do this instead of the paper. You could also attach pom poms to the top of your antennae to make them look fuzzy.
Let your child’s imagination fly! Experiment with different colors, patterns, and accessories to create unique bee designs. I hope you and your little ones will have a buzzing good time creating these adorable bee friends! Bee-Hive Hide and Seek
Turn your home or backyard into a buzzing adventure with Bee-Hive Hide and Seek! Create a buzz of excitement by hiding small bee-shaped toys or pictures throughout your chosen area. Kids will love searching high and low for these little critters, making a joyful “buzz” every time they find one. This game is perfect for developing observation skills and encouraging exploration.
Honey Pot Relay
Get ready for a sweet and sticky race with the Honey Pot Relay! Fill small containers with water or honey-colored liquid (like apple juice) to represent honey pots. Bee Charades
Unleash your child’s acting skills with Bee Charades! Write down bee-related words or phrases on slips of paper. Let each child take turns acting out a word or phrase without speaking, while the other players try to guess. This game is perfect for boosting creativity, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Flower Power
Transform your space into a vibrant flower garden with Flower Power! Create large paper flowers and number them. Call out a number, and watch as kids race to the corresponding flower.
